Daniel Karslake is an award-winning American film and television director/ producer who has most recently completed a seven-part web series called PARADIGM SHIFTERS featuring some of the most hopeful and relevant voices around solving the religious conflict in the Middle East.
Prior to EVERY THREE SECONDS, his last feature film about the potential in each of us to end hunger & poverty, Karslake directed and produced FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO which premiered in competition at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and was short-listed for a 2008 Academy Award. In 2010, Entertainment Weekly magazine listed the film as “one of five documentaries that has changed the world,” and it has been translated into more than 20 languages worldwide.
Karslake’s new film, FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO, is a follow-up to FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO, and it had its world premiere in competition at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival. His next project is an exploration of the shocking influence the Nazis had in 1930’s Hollywood called HITLER’S MAN IN HOLLYWOOD.
Prior to his film work, Karslake was a producer/director of the long-running newsmagazine, IN THE LIFE, which aired on PBS in over 140 markets across the nation. In recognition of his work, Karslake received an Emmy nomination from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. As part of a training program for new television directors, he also worked on WEEDS (Showtime,) GOOD LUCK CHARLIE (Disney,) THE GEORGE LOPEZ SHOW (ABC,) and ANGER MANAGEMENT (FX.)
Karslake is a proud member of the Director’s Guild of America. He received his B.A. in public policy from Duke University and has taught documentary filmmaking both at Duke and at Stanford University. He lives in Berlin, Germany with his husband Russ Anderson.
